Bird skill 404: posting from OpenClaw after the CLI disappeared
If openclaw skills install bird 404s, brew install steipete/tap/bird fails, or ClawHub has no steipete/bird card, that is expected. The original Bird CLI is gone.
Bird was a fast X CLI: tweet, reply, and read through undocumented GraphQL using browser cookies. The steipete/bird repo and the v0.8.0 macOS tarball return 404. ClawHub returns "Skill not found" for bird and @steipete/bird.
That is not Birdclaw
birdclaw.sh is a local Twitter archive. Live writes go through official xurl or a leftover private Bird binary. Birdclaw's docs say Bird is not a public setup path for new users. Its MCP is read-only. If you wanted an OpenClaw posting skill, Birdclaw is not that.
Random skills still named bird are not a safe fallback. The skills mirror has had malicious clones, and short-name installs have resolved to the wrong artifact. Use a full slug.
What to use instead
| Use case | Tool |
|---|---|
| Local X archive | Birdclaw |
| Official X API (you have a developer app) | xurl |
| Agent posts from the Chrome you already use | Claw Post |
About Claw Post
Claw Post is not a cookie CLI. Desktop Chrome, not a headless VPS. Facebook member groups and Reddit comments are the cases official APIs usually will not give you. Post only to groups you already belong to. Never auto-join. X still has a paid write API; use it if you have it.
Follow each platform's terms. Claw Post is not affiliated with X, Meta, Reddit, or Bird/Birdclaw.
Install
Do not tell your agent "install clawpost":
openclaw skills install @daydreamnationtechlabs/clawpost
Or MCP: https://mcp.clawpost.net/mcp
Two products named Clawpost
This page is clawpost.net. The short phrase "install clawpost" often installs @acidias/clawpost-2 (clawpost.dev).
Chrome extension
ClawPost on the Chrome Web Store, publisher Daydream Nation. Pair it. Log into the social site in that same Chrome.
